MSU student named national accounting champion for 2016
KUCHING: Management and Science University ( MSU) student Aizat Shahar beats 16 other undergraduates to clinch the ‘Best Accounting Student Award’ from the Malaysian Institute of Accounting ( MIA).
The prestigious award allows him to pursue a professional programme under the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales ( ICAEW) – a key organisation that promotes the development of accountancy and finance professionals, and also supports thousands of chartered accountants worldwide.
Apart from the recognition, Aizat also pockets RM500.
“The award serves as a good start for me to realise my dream of becoming an auditor. I want to gather as much experience as I can from the industry within the three years of work that I have planned to undertake before completing my ICAEW papers that would help qualify me to become a chartered accountant,” the youth said, who is now in his final phase of internship at a member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd.
Aizat attributed this success to his family, friends and also his lecturers at the MSU. He also pointed out that the unique MSU learning experience had given him the edge to excel academically and personally.
MSU is the first private university accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA) and is touted as one of the nation’s best teaching and learning universities.
Emphasising experiential and holistic learning, MSU embeds the components of industrial internship, international exposure and personal enrichment into compelling learning experiences that would equip graduates with the well-roundedness required by the 21st - century workplace.
The effectiveness of the MSU approach is proven by the Ministry of Higher Education’s ‘Graduate Tracer Study’ of which MSU claims the top spot with 98.6 per cent of its graduates obtaining employment within six months from their graduation.
In comparison, the national average graduate employability rate stands at 70 to 80 per cent.
