KUCHING: SEGi College Sarawak has signed a progression agreement with the University of Hertfordshire ( UH) in the United Kingdom.

Students completing their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) with three credits are eligible to enrol in the three-year Diploma in Law.

A press statement yesterday said the only college in East Malaysia offering law programmes has a diploma syllabus with 70 per cent UK law and 30 per cent Malaysian law, making it ideal for students who intend to practise in East Malaysia.

Under the terms of the progression agreement, following the successful completion of three years at SEGi, students may articulate to UH to complete the final Year 3 of the Bachelor of Laws ( LLB) Honours Programme.

Malaysian students who are called to the UK Bar following their LLB are eligible to be admitted to practise in Malaysia without having to take the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) offered by the Legal Profession Qualifications Board.

The University of Hertfordshire was ranked 59th in a recent survey of 600 United Kingdom universities by The Times in its Higher Education Guide, 2017.

It is one of 66 universities recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifications Board of Malaysia.

All prospective law students and parents are advised to check www. lpqb.org.my for more information about entry to the legal profession in Malaysia.
