Kuching Esplanade to be venue of Chap Goh Mei 2017

KUCHING: Kuching Esplanade at Jalan Gambier will be the venue of Chap Goh Mei 2017 on Feb 11, starting 7pm.

The joint organisers are Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU), Federation of Kuching, Samarahan, Serian Chinese Associatio­ns, Kuching Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Kuching Division Community Associatio­ns, India Street Merchants Associatio­n, Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall and The Waterfront Hotel.

DBKU Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai announced this at a press conference here yesterday.

He said the organisers had invited Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmad and wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tun Bujang to attend the function.

“Activities lined up include lion dance, wushu performanc­e, ‘throwing mandarin oranges into Sarawak River’, fireworks and sale of food and drinks from food truck,” he said.

Lebuh Jawa, Jalan Power and Jalan Gambier will be closed from 6pm to 11.30pm on Feb 11.

Hawkers in the areas are advised not to park their cars by the road shoulder.

They are urged to decorate the street with lighting to celebrate the festival.

They are also welcome to the event.
