SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) is determined to serve the people and fight for the interest of all Sarawakians.

In stating this, chairman of SUPP Bawang Assan branch Robert Lau Hui Yew said the only purpose in politics is to serve the people.

“SUPP’s mission is to be the voice of the people. SUPP has been around for 58 years and this is the reason we are able to move forward.

“Thus, we must work together and be united as one party to serve the interests of the people,” he said when addressing a Chinese New Year celebration jointly organised by SUPP Bawang Assan and Pelawan branches at Good Happiness Restaurant here on Sunday night.

Also present at the celebration were two political secretaries to the chief minister Michael Tiang and Daniel Bujal, SUPP Pelawan branch chairman Clarence Ting, SUPP Dudong branch chairman Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, SUPP Nangka branch chairman Benson Chua and SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Chieng Buong Toon.

Lau, who is also the deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council, called on the people, especially the Chinese community to unite with all the other communities in the state.

“We must be united and come together with all the other communities in the State. All Sarawakians must be united to fight for the interests, rights and autonomy of Sarawak.

“If we are not united, we will be marginalised from the mainstream of development,” he pointed out.

On the Chinese New Year celebration, he said CNY was a time for gathering, celebration and looking forward with renewed hope.

The celebration was made merrier with dance and singing as well as lucky draws.
