Improve your welding skill, take up course at Centexs

KUCHING: Youths are urged to take up the 6G Welding Course at Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak ( Centexs) in collaboration with integrated oil and gas brown field services provider Petra Resources Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petra Energy Berhad ( PEB).

Awang Khazali, one of the graduates, said the welding course provided employment opportunities for youths in the oil and gas industry.

“I hope to see more youths in Sarawak, especially those who are not doing anything now, to join this collaborative training programme from Centexs and Petra Resources as it provides employment opportunities to graduates,” he said when met after receiving his letter of employment from State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani and PEB chief executive officer Dato’ Anthony Firdauz Bujang during the presentation ceremony here yesterday.

The 22-year- old who hails from Tanjung Bundong, Kota Samarahan, said he had improved his skills as a welder since joining the six-month course.

“I previously worked as a welder and because of my interest in the field, I decided to take up the course to upgrade my welding skills and upon completion, I was given the opportunity to work in the oil and gas industry through Petra Resources.”

Also sharing the same sentiment was Jeffery Satan who said the course gave youths a special opportunity to find employment in the oil and gas industry.

“I was among the first batch of students from the programme and I have been with Petra Resources for the past three years.

“Not only did the programme open up employment opportunity for me, it will also allow me to go further in the oil and gas industry,” said the 24-year- old from Sebauh, Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Erinkay Jack from Kuching urged youths to take up this programme as it provided exposure to technical skills, which could be beneficial to the not too academically-inclined students.

“Apart from that, finding a job is hard these days even if you are a diploma or degree holder. With Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) being given emphasis, this is a programme to show your capability and provides employment opportunity in the oil and gas industry,” he said.
