DH Global search for ‘Superstar of Tomorrow’
KUCHING: A state-wide talent contest for the ‘Superstar of Tomorrow’ will kick off in June with auditions to be held in five locations.
DH Global Pte Ltd is inviting members of the public, especially youths, to participate in its inaugural Borneo (Sarawak/Sabah) 2017 talent competition to start in June.
A joint project with renowned Sarawak film director Bjarne Wong, the talent competition will begin with several preliminary rounds in various locations in Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
“Several hopeful candidates will have to go through an audition in various locations to be announced at a later date throughout the state and also in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
“We are looking at a total of 10 finalists from each location and all 50 finalists will then compete in a grand finale concert that will feature only the best 10. This competition is open not only to Chinese but also all races in Sarawak and Sabah,” said Wong at a press conference here yesterday.
For the audition, participants are required to bring their own music CD in karaoke mode. Music can also be played with their own musical instruments without limitations and songs can be sung in any preferred language.
“The performances will be evaluated based on several criteria to include voice and singing quality, stage presence, image and singing emotion,” he explained.
The judges’ decision is final. Judging panel will include several top names in the local entertainment industry including Wong.
The champion will get receive a cash prize of RM10,000, a trophy and an EP album contract. First and second runnerups will receive RM5,000 and RM3,000 respectively together with a trophy each. Top 10 winners will also receive a group album contract.
“We hope to bring more happenings in Sarawak through this programme which we will start its filming in June for a total of 20 episodes with four judges and coaches who will provide lessons to enhance a participant’s talent.
“This is an opportunity not to be missed by Sarawakians who are mostly highly talented individuals,” he added.
Meanwhile, DH Global Pte Ltd chief executive officer Vincent Kam said the talent competition is aimed at providing opportunities for participants to perform before a wider audience.
“It is an excellent platform for participants to showcase their talents to the general audience. We also hope to promote a healthy lifestyle among participants and the larger community. There will be lots of benefit that they can enjoy after the project with one aim in mind, which is to position Sarawak better in the eyes of the world,” he added.
