Welfare Dept thanks govt bodies, NGOs
KUCHING: The state Welfare Department has many governmental and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) to thank for in making it among the best departments in the state civil service.
Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah attributes the department’s achievement in clinching ‘High Performance Team Award’ during the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) Excellence Night 2016 in December, which earned it RM5,000.
“The department won the award based on its excellence in handling disasters across the state last year.

This is why teamwork and cooperation are important as the Welfare Department could not have done it on its own,” she pointed out at an appreciation gathering at a hotel here on Friday night, where 22 representatives of

various government departments and agencies, NGOs and other bodies received certificates of appreciation.
Assistant Minister for Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and state Welfare Department director Abang Shamshudin Abang Seruji were also present at the event.
Adding on, Fatimah hoped that the state Welfare Department would strive to do their best and should they win the same award again next time, it would be a bonus.
However, she stressed that the core focus must always be to provide and deliver the best services to those needing them the most.
“They (JKMNS) are constantly finding the best ways to serve the people. We shall continue to work hard and also work closely with the relevant government organisation and agencies, as well as the NGOs towards improving our services for the people. I congratulate the department for their great effort,” she said.
Meanwhile Abang Shamshudin remarked that the award served as ‘a kind reward for the department’ as the staff members had been working tirelessly to serve those who were in need.
“Our department plays a crucial role in the delivery of aid and also the recovery of disaster victims. It is also a member of the National Disaster Relief Management Committee,” he said.
