Take the initiative to improve, lorry owners told

MIRI: Miri Lorry Owners Association members should take the initiative to improve the industry for their own benefit.

In making this call, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting urged the members to persevere in facing the increase in oil prices and expensive vehicle spare parts.

“Since its establishment over 50 years ago, the association has come a long way and admittedly it was not an easy journey for many. However, I strongly believe that with perseverance, dedication and with the exco members working together, you could bring the association to a new height,” Ting said when officiating at the Miri Lorry Owners Association Installation cum Chinese New Year dinner at a leading hotel here on Friday.

He reiterated that lorry owners have contributed their fair share to the economy by transforming Miri from a fishing village to a beautiful city today, adding that with good strategies they could also overcome the current high cost of living.

Ting later witnessed the installation ceremony of exco members for the 2017-2018 term led by newly elected chairman Liong Eng Kon.

Liong, who also spoke at the function, said that it was time for lorry owners to seek new ways to adapt to new economic challenges.

“Times are bad and challenges are unavoidable. We must not stick to the old ways of doing business but instead work with the people’s representatives and the government to look for alternative ways to improve the industry,” he said.

Among those present were Sarawak Vehicle Owners Association president Ling Kee Chung, association members and their family members.
