MAF leaving it to police to investigate camp incident
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is leaving it to the police to investigate the case of an exsoldier who tried to snatch the rifle of a soldier on duty at the entrance of the Seberang Takir Camp in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, yesterday.
Armed Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the investigations should be done by the police as it involved a civilian.
“I can confirm that the suspect is an ex-soldier, we are not sure of the motive for the attack, the suspect could be under the influence of drugs or suffering a mental problem.
“I leave it to the police to conduct an investigation, and I congratulate the army staff there for being alert, that is the attitude that must be in every member of the armed forces who guards a camp,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Round Table II Conference of the MAF Veterans Association here yesterday.
Asked about the possibility of the MAF tightening security at all entry points in army camps throughout the country, Raja Mohamed Affandi said this task had so far been well-carried out, in accordance to the Standard Operating Procedures.

Terengganu CID chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said the ex-soldier by military personnel at the camp and handed over to the police.
He said in the incident at about 1.55 pm, the suspect arrived at the camp on a motorcycle wearing a crash helmet and covering his face with a piece of black cloth. — Bernama
