KUCHING: The Malaysian women’s team are aiming to make it to the semi-finals of the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament Lienviet Postbank Cup in Vietnam from yesterday until Feb 18.
Head coach Dato Moh Wun Ming said the tournament was a good exposure in preparation for the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur this August.
He said although Malaysia won the VAS International Women’s Tournament last month, the players are not feeling complacent but instead are training seriously to attain a good result in Vietnam.
“This is the best opportunity for our players to gain valuable experience and gauge their standard and skills,” he added while taking note that the tournament would feature foreign teams, the Thai U18 squad and six of Vietnam’s volleyball clubs, including the top three in last year’s VTV Women’s International Women’s Volleyball Tournament in Thailand.
Moh also said qualifying for the semi-finals was a conservative target and it would be a bonus if Malaysia can go further.
According to him, the most important mission was for the team to observe the style of play especially that of Thailand and Vietnam who will be competing in the upcoming SEA Games.
The Malaysian team are continuously taking part in various warming up competitions in preparation for SEA Games.
The national team comprised Stephanie Law Feng Nie (captain), Alicia Yii Chii Hui, Ching Hui Ming, Angela Tang Ling Hui, Mandy Chiu Hua Yien, Ting Hui Chin, Ngin Jia Ning, Tasha Mae, Eve Tan Yu Fan, Aishwini Thevar Arulnathan, Wong Wee Yan, Low Mei Cing and Chroe Wong Rong Rong.
The team officials include Yean Lai Haw (team manager), Philip Teo Chit Boon (assistant coach), trainers Simon Lee and Hoh Liang Sui while the accompanying referee is Ang Chuah Hin.
