Kotas lift SAG title

KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Swimming Associatio­n ( Kotas) led all the way to win the 44th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championsh­ip at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya last Sunday.

Boosted by the return of Hii brothers Puong Hou, Puong Wei and Puong Jie to the fold, Kotas captured 49 gold, 51 silver and 26 bronze medals to top the threeday meet.

They claimed more honours when Kelly Teo was named the best girl in Girls Group D with eight golds and two si lvers, Rachel Chang in Girls Group B with eight golds and two bronzes, Hii Puong Jie in Boys Group D with eight golds and two silvers while Awang Yuhaineq Hazneq was the best boy in Group E after he broke two records and won two golds, two silver and one bronze.

Kuching Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( Kasa) 2010 took second place with 40 gold, 33 silver and 35 bronze medals while their swimmer Vanessa Liew Xing Yi broke two records and won six golds and two bronze to walk away with the Girls Group E best swimmer award.

Defending champions Sibu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( Sasa), who f ielded only 29 swimmers this year, came in third place af ter capturing 3 4 golds, 3 3 si lvers and 3 4 bronzes.

Sasa’s Kilian Ung Shihuang was the best swimmer in Boys Group A with two new records and a medal haul of three golds, five silvers and three bronzes while Adeline Lau was the best Girls Group C swimmer with eight golds, one silver and one bronze.

Winners of other best swimmer awards were Muhammad Naqeb Rosli in Boys Group B with one record, three golds, one silver and two bronzes, Limbang’s Wong Kai Jin in Boys Group C with eight golds and two silvers and Miri’s Leong Wan Mei in Girls Group A with six golds.

Those finishing in fourth to seventh spots were Masa (16-1113), Lasa (12- 7-11), Invitation­al Swimmers ( 4- 3-11) and Bintulu Amateur Swimming Associatio­n ( 2-13- 9).

Ten new meet records were also created in the meet organised by Kotas and sanctioned by Amateur Swimming Associatio­n of Sarawak.

Assistant Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah closed the event and gave away the prizes.

Also present were permanent secretary to Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Kameri Affandi, Kotas president Alice Kwon and organising chairman Sim Guan Meng.
