‘Federal govt spends RM118 mln on NCR perimeter survey in S’wak’
SEMATAN: The federal government has allocated RM118 million to Sarawak, beginning in 2010, for it to carry out the perimeter survey on Native Customary Rights ( NCR) land.
According to Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, there have been 695 applications for land surveying works in the state since.
“So far, 476 areas covering 763,629 hectares (1,886,927 acres) have been surveyed. Out of this, 395 areas covering 610,339 hectares (1,508,148 acres) have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve land for agriculture under Section 6 of State Land Code, while five other areas are in various stages of surveying works,” he said in his speech at Dewan Sentosa of Putra Sentosa Camp near here yesterday.
He said as at Jan 31 this year, there were 695 applications for perimeter survey works across the state but out of this number, work had only begun at 610 areas covering 1,012,384 hectares (2,501,601 acres).

“So far, we have given out 3,984 land titles, which involved 26 areas covering 3,886 hectares,” he disclosed.
Awang Tengah assured the people that the government would continue to carry out perimeter surveys on NCR land and individuals lots – provided that there was no dispute.

demand the whole of Sarawak. If that’s the case, it would be very difficult to carry out this exercise.”
For Tanjong Datu, Awang Tengah said there were 30 applications for surveying works, of which 26 had been approved.
“From the 26 applications that were approved, we have commenced survey works at 23 ( areas) covering 10,176 hectares ( 25,145 acres). Out of this, survey works on 22 areas covering 10,137 hectares ( 25,049 acres) have been completed,” he said, adding that 19 areas covering 9,372 hectares ( 23,158 acres) had been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserve for agriculture purposes.
Moreover, Awang Tengah disclosed that as of Jan 31 this year, 154,505 land titles involving 297,733 hectares (735,698 acres) of land had been released for the purpose of agriculture.
Later at the function yesterday, Awang Tengah handed over communal land titles for Kampung Bedaun covering 9,723m² of land, and also for Kampung Temaga Melayu covering 64.39 hectares. He also presented 86 lots covering 97.75 hectares to 72 landowners who took part in an oil palm plantation programme managed by Salcra Sebako Kampung Pueh.
For Lundu, Awang Tengah presented land titles for Kampung Gerunggang covering 361.53 hectares of land; Kampung Klaoh covering 48.902 hectares; Kampung Pasir Hilir ( Melayu) covering 259 hectares; Kampung Temelan Dayak covering 239.302 hectares; and Kampung Stunggang hectares.
In a remark, Awang Tengah advised landowners to maintain and develop their land, instead of selling them off for quick gains.
