Public urged to donate books to Chinese schools
Generally, reading will be able to help with good writing. The language ability of students who are fond of reading books, especially literature and science books, will give them an extra advantage over those who do not. I would like to encourage schools to buy more books so that students can benefit.
KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang called on members of the public to donate books to Chung Hua schools as Chinese schools in general are facing setbacks due to lack of funds.
This is because most of these schools cannot even afford to buy extra- curricular books, resulting in school library books being very limited, said Lo who is also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party ( SUPP) assistant publicity and information secretary.
“So I urged members of the Chinese community in particular to donate books to Chung Hua schools, so that their school libraries can have a wider range of books,” he said.
Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) chairman, made these remarks yesterday when launching the SJK Chung Hua Stampin Mobile Library which he also sponsored in his capacity as state assemblyman of Batu Kitang.

Lo said: “I am very pleased to attend the opening ceremony of the launch of the SJK Chung Hua Stampin Mobile Library. Particularly, I fully support Chung Hua Schools in the setting up of their own mobile libraries to provide students with the facility of borrowing extra- curricular books, keeping these students interested in reading and also contributing to the broadening of their general knowledge.
“I would like to encourage the students of Chung Hua schools to use the mobile library wisely. Try to borrow more books, do more reading at home. Students who read books regularly certainly can improve their language ability and composition level and then it will help them to improve their academic performance,” he emphasised.
“Generally, reading will be able to help with good writing. The language ability of students who are fond of reading books, especially literature and science books, will give them an extra advantage over those who do not. I would like to encourage schools to buy more books so that students can benefit.
“I also hope that the school authority will be able to talk to the other Chung Hua schools for the establishment of more mobile libraries.”
He urged the public to donate their used books to school libraries willingly, expressing his belief that most people have left books languishing in corners after finishing them.
He also hoped parents will buy suitable extra- curricular books or storybooks and novels for their children to cultivate the youngsters’ interest in reading and writing.
“Lastly, I would like to thank SJK Chung Hua Stampin for their great hospitality. It’s been a wonderful journey to be participating in this mobile library project,” Lo said, ending his speech.
