Ministry enhances mechanism on insurance scheme for farmers, breeders — Ahmad Shabery

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Agricultue And Agro-based Industry Ministry is enhancing the best mechanism to implement the insurance scheme for farmers and breeders in dealing with natural disasters such as flood.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the first draft of the insurance scheme by Agrobank was now completed but the ministry had requested the draft to be improved to ensure that the module would be comprehensive at all stages of its implementation.

He said this was to prevent any problem such as misunderstanding when the target groups were required to pay for their own insurance scheme that they had signed up for.

“So, I’ve asked (Agrobank) to relook. The module must be correct from the very beginning,” he told a press conference after officiating the Agrobank Business Dialogue 2017 (DNA2017) here yesterday.

Ahmad Shabery said the ministry would also look at such schemes being applied overseas as reference. He said the effort in creating such schemes was important in helping the groups to deal with natural disasters without having to depend on government’s assistance.

Earlier in his speech, the minister said the government was now working on the best method in ensuring the people have access to quality food by 2050, as the country’s population was expected to reach 50 million by then. — Bernama
