Safeguard your land for future generations, Sungai Rait, Tukau folk advised

-

MIRI: Residents of Sungai Rait and Tukau must not easily give in to tempting offers by certain quarters who are willing to buy their land at high prices.

According to Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, there are outsiders who are very interested in acquiring the land for residential or commercial development and towards this end, they are willing to go all out.

However, the land owners themselves should not feel pressured to sell.

“Instead, you must defend your land so that it can be passed down to your future generations.

“If the land is sold to outsiders, what would happen to your grandchildren? They would have no property and thus, would face difficulties in terms of having to look for a place to live in,” he said in his opening remarks at a Chinese New Year celebration in SJK Chung Hua Bakam, Sungai Rait yesterday.

Ahmad Lai said selling land to outsiders would give a significant impact to their next-of-kin.

“Do not be enticed by persuasion or ‘ blinded’ by the big cash offered by outsiders. The people of Sungai Rait and Tukau should defend their land for their future generations,” he stressed.

On another subject, the MP said the government had always been very concerned about the education of the children, including those in Chinese schools, as indicated by the large allocation set aside for this sector.

“In Sarawak, for example, the state government announced RM6 million for Chinese schools. This clearly shows how much the government cares for the people and that it is never biased when it comes to education opportunities for all,” he said.

In this regard, Ahmad Lai pointed out that it was the responsibility of parents to provide proper education to their children because the little ones would be the ones who could develop the country further.

“We want them to grow up and become successful individuals – this can only be achieved through education.”

The parliamentarian also advised today’s youths against being easily influenced by news posted and shared on social networking sites without seeking for verification.

“Instead, ask the relevant authorities for the facts.

“We also expect teachers to play their role in brushing aside these rumours and propaganda that attempt to poison the minds of our younger generation.

“Moreover, parents should support and cooperate with the teachers when it comes to their children’s education – in accordance with the national education policy,” he added.

At the event, Ahmad Lai presented angpows to pupils and staff members at SJK Chung Hua Bakam, as well as daily essential items to 21 underprivileged families here.

Earlier, the MP was at SJKC Tukau to distribute daily essential items to 16 underprivileged families, as well as angpows to the pupils and staff.
