Unity key to facing rapid development, Bisayas told
MIRI: The Bisayas here must remain united in facing the rapid development taking place not only in the state but also globally.
In making thi s cal l , the newly- elected Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak ( PBS) Anak Tuno-Palas sub- branch chairman Federik Banyi Sulok said unity was vital for this minority ethnic group so that they would not be left behind other communities in the pursuit of progress.
“We have to be aggressive and proactive in identifying the opportunities opened up by the government so that we would be able to elevate our status and also to ensure that we, alongside other communities, would receive a fair share of the benefits and privileges that come with development,” he said after the election of the sub-branch’s new office-bearers at Kampung Anak Tuno in Tedungan, Limbang recently.
He said in view of their small number, the Bisayas could utilise PBS to have their voice heard and acknowledged by the government.
He also reminded the younger generation of Bisayas to work closely with the association, which he regarded as the ‘ best platform’ to link the community with the government.
The election yesterday was witnessed by local community leader Ketua Kaum Jude Julai Tikas, former PBS Anak TunoPalas sub- branch chairman Gapar Muda and PBS Central executive committee member Augustine Pudon Inak Ong.
The sub- branch executive committee is now led by Federik, aided by deputy chairman Steven Yesus Yundow, secretary John Andy Lenggang and treasurer Labing Nanggang.
The respect ive assi stant secretary and assistant treasurer are Jelina Tuah and Rasidah Abdullah, while the ordinary committee members are Nicula Jude Ju lai , Idang Leman, Mohamad Julaihe Abdul lah, Brahim Yahyut a nd Mejo Jangeh.
The auditor for the PBS Anak Tuno- Pa las sub - branch is Mastura Lenggang.
