Overwhelming response to Kuching Heritage Race

-

KUCHING: The second Kuching Heritage Race 2017 to be held on Feb 25 has surpassed its initial target of 200 participants as the number has swelled to 248.

Encouraged by the overwhelming response, the event organising chairman Philip Yong said they are looking forward to open the competition for 400 to 500 participants next year.

Organised by the Kuching Heritage Committee, the race themed ‘Our community: past, present and future,’ was supposed to take place last Jan 14.

“Due to the untimely death of our former Chief Minister, we had to postpone the race to Feb 25,” said Yong.

He added that this year’s race will be fun and educational as well as raising awareness on the various organisations that are underfunded or overlooked.

“We want to help to raise fund for the restoration of Segu Bungalow, a project undertaken by Friends of Sarawak Museum, Ten-ringgit Club which helps young people with learning disabilities and Heart Treasures, a social enterprise that helps to rehabilitate children with special needs.”

According to Yong, with the participants’ age ranging from four years old to over 60 years old, the aim of the race is also to have fun especially for the family while having a great learning experience.

Yong further explained, “We have included some quizzes during the race, answering these questions is not compulsory. However, for every question answered correctly three minutes will be deducted from the participants’ race time.”

The race will take off from Grand Margherita Hotel’s poolside through the Padungan area.

The Kuching Heritage Race 2017 is sponsored by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture; Borneo Adventure Sdn Bhd, Saradise SB, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS), Grand Margherita Hotel and Riverside Majestic Hotel.
