200,000 people expected to attend RUU355 rally – PAS

KUALA LUMPUR: About 200,000 people are expected to attend the RUU355 Rally at Padang Merbok, here this Saturday.

PAS informatio­n chief, Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said the rally from 2pm to 11pm will feature 21 speakers, including non-Muslim leaders.

Special prayers will be held later in the evening so that the RUU355 Bill is passed by parliament.

The RUU355 Rally theme is ‘ Syariah Diperkasa, Rakyat Sejahtera.’

Meanwhile, the police have given approval to the RUU355 Rally organisers to hold a peaceful rally at Padang Merbok, on Saturday from 3pm to 12 midnight.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman urged the organisers and the participan­ts to comply with the rules of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Dataran Merdeka and part of Jalan Parlimen will be closed on Saturday ( Feb 18) from 8am to midnight, he said in a media statement yesterday.

In Kota Bharu, the Kelantan government has declared Sunday ( Feb 19) as a special holiday to mark the RUU355 Rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said it was to give the people ample time to attend the RUU355 Rally and to return home.

“It is as moral support from the state government to empower the syariah courts through an amendment to Act 355.

“It will also allow many people to join the RUU355 Rally,”he told reporters after attending the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting at Kompleks Kota Darul Naim here, yesterday.

On Nov 24, 2016, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang tabled a Private Member’s Bill to empower the Syariah Court ( Criminal Jurisdicti­on) (Amendment) Bill 2016. — Bernama
