Sirim approved reflective stickers on school buses, vans compulsory from July 1

-

MIRI: Operators of school buses and vans across Sarawak are reminded to comply with a ruling by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) on the use of only Sirimapproved reflective stickers on their vehicles.

Federation of School Bus Operators Associations Sarawak president Rosnah Abdul Hadi said the use of light reflector stickers on school buses and vans would be strictly enforced effective July 1 this year.

“These Sirim-approved stickers are available at the Puspakom counter. Thus, I hope the school buses and vans operators, particularly members of the federation, would purchase these stickers early and avoid obtaining them at the last minute,” she told The Borneo Post on the compulsory need for about 300 school buses and vans in Sarawak to put Sirim-approved reflective stickers on their vehicles.

According to Rosnah, the reflective stickers are selling between RM100 and RM110 per set. She added that the stickers would have to be put on by the owners at the front and back sections of their vehicles.

“These reflective stickers are very important as vehicle hazard warning to increase road safety and reduce accidents. As most of us go out early around 4am to pick up passengers (students) from their house to school, these reflective stickers serve as an effective and convenient way to enhance the visibility of our vehicles while on the road.”

To date, a total of five bus associations have been registered under Federation of School Bus Operators Associations Sarawak.

They are Miri City School Buses Association of Miri, School Bus Owners Association of Bintulu, School Buses Association of Limbang and School Buses Association of Kuching City South and School Buses Association of Kuching North.
