‘1 File, 1 Week’ campaign for state govt agencies

KUCHING: Pustaka Negeri or Sarawak State Library will be organising a ‘1 File, 1 Week’ campaign for Sarawak government agencies starting this month.

This campaign is in line with the functions of Sarawak State Library as a State Depository which requires all government agencies to transfer their valuable records and archives to the library.

A statement issued here said this function is stated in the Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999, Section 14 ( 1) ( d) : “To maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than 25 years old and other documents, papers, instrument­s and statues, statutory orders, regulation­s or decrees, directed by State Secretary to be maintained, preserved and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance”.

The campaign will be held in three series.

The first series on Introducti­on to Archives and Records Management was held in the Conference Room 2, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak building yesterday (Feb 17).

The second series on Practical in Processing will be held in the Processing Room, State Records Repository at 8.30am on Feb 28.

The third and final series on Transfer of Records and Archives Material will on March 19, starting 8.30am also in the Processing Room, State Records Repository.

“The campaign aims to create awareness among the government department­s and agencies on the importance of proper management and maintenanc­e of records and archives.

“In addition, the campaign is to encourage the transfer of systematic records and archives of government department­s and agencies to the State Records Repository,” said the statement.

The campaign will be held in sessions for records officers from nine units in the Chief Minister’s Department. The records officers are required to attend the three series campaign to facilitate the transfer of agencies files to the State Records Repository of Sarawak State Library.
