Resident’s, District Office to move to Islamic Complex next month

-

MIRI: The Miri Resident’s and District Office will move from the colonial- era building at the city centre to the Sarawak Islamic Complex at Jalan Pujut next month.

This was confirmed by Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis on Thursday.

“The process of moving out from the existing building to the new office at Sarawak Islamic Complex Miri will be conducted in stages. Thus, it would not affect our normal operation as all the activities are conducted like normal.”

Antonio advised members of the public to take note of the relocation which will be effective from March 8.

He said three floors of the complex, from seventh to ninth floor, would be used as Miri Resident’s Office.

District officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf said Miri District Office will occupy the fifth floor of the complex.

“In general, there will be no interruption to public services provided by the Miri District Office.

“We will ensure all the activities conducted in the existing building are able to run smoothly before officially moving to the new administration office by 8th of next month,” he said.

Government agencies have to vacate the colonial building that was built during the Brooke era in the late 1800s after a proposal to turn the building into a cultural and heritage museum for the city was approved by the state cabinet last year.

The building will be the site of the second museum for this resort city, after the Petroleum Museum at Canada Hill.

This building was bombed during the world wars and rebuilt by the British and has been used as the Resident’s and District Office until today.
