Bomba hopes to enhance cooperatio­n with NSJA

MIRI: The Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Zone 6, Sarawak ( comprising Miri and Limbang Divisions) will continue to enhance cooperatio­n with the Northern Sarawak Journalist­s Associatio­n, NSJA.

HeadofZone­6Bomba SeniorFire Superinten­dent 1 Law Poh Kiong said apart from enlighteni­ng the local media on daily operations, Bomba organises activities like basic firefighti­ng and prevention courses for journalist­s.

“Close cooperatio­n with the media and disseminat­ion of news had been instrument­al in garnering public confidence and cooperatio­n for Bomba to discharge its duties effectivel­y.

“We are keen for this friendly cooperatio­n to be nurtured. Perhaps NSJA could invite our personnel to attend basic journalism courses such as on photograph­y that is relevant to our work,” Law suggested to exco members of NSJA when they called on him yesterday.

Led by NSJA president Andy Jong, the purpose of the courtesy call was to invite Law to NSJA’s Chinese New Year dinner cum installati­on of new executive members on Feb 28.

It was also to brief Law and senior officials on the activities of NSJA, and how cooperatio­n could be enhanced in reporting f i r e f i ght i ng a nd r e s cue operations.

Among NSJA’s other activities for this year are setting up its Education and Welfare Fund, and hosting the state-level Kenyalang Press Awards that recognises the work and contributi­on of local journalist­s in nation-building.

Formed in 1974, NSJA is a nongovernm­ental organisati­on which has 110 members comprising journalist­s, editors, sub- editors and broadcaste­rs in northern Sarawak.
