-

TATAU: SMK Tatau was champion of Petronas All About Youth (AAY) All Star 2016 with its project titled ‘Green Toilet’, an eco- friendly toilet built to save energy and water.

Petronas Sarawak Regional general manager Shamsur Taha said beating four other schools in the country at the national level was an achievement to be proud of.

He said five secondary schools from across the country were selected in the finals: SMK Chukai and SMK Padang Pulut from Terengganu, SMK Bongkol and SMK Penangah from Sabah and SMK Tatau from Sarawak.

Shamsur said this during the cheque presentation at SMK Tatau hall on Thursday.

“The competition was held in November last year at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, and SMK Tatau was the first secondary school from the interior of Sarawak to become champion,” he added.

SMK Tatau principal Peter Use Lenjau said the victory by 20 of his students was a source of pride to the school.

“I want to thank Petronas for giving the opportunity to these students to participate in this competition and guide them all the way until they became champion with a win of RM50,000,” he said.

Peter hoped Petronas would continue strengthening its partnership with the school by improving its facilities to benefit students.

Shamsur presented the cheque to Peter for RM1,000 to be credited into the Education Fund accounts of the 20 students.

At the same time, Edison Chew Pan Hao, an engineer for Petronas was named Best Buddy AAY 2016.
