-

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor police have crippled a drug processing syndicate, believed to be the biggest in the state involving ecstasy pills, with the arrest of two suspects at a double-storey house in Setia Alam here on Tuesday.

Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Amran Ramli said the suspects, aged 41 and 33, were busy processing the drug when police raided the premises at 6.15 pm.

He said a total of 6,437 Ecstasy pills; 93.5 kilogrammes of powder believed to be Ecstasy; 235.2 grammes of powder and slabs believed to be Syabu; 109 grammes of caffeine powder; 265 kilogrammes of precursor powder ( synthetic drug) and drug processing paraphernalia, all worth about RM12.5 million, were seized during the raid.

Also seized were two cars, a BMW 7 Series and Volkswagen Passat, he told a press conference here yesterday. Amran said this was the biggest raid for this year and that it was carried out following a six-month surveillance by the narcotics team.

“Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had been operating from the rented house for a year,” he said.

Amran said the search for the remaining members of the syndicate was being intensified.

The two suspects would be in remand until Feb 21 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
