Sarawak delegation in Yunnan to strengthen bilateral ties

KUNMING, China: A Sarawak delegation on a working visit to Yunnan Province yesterday has expressed interest in developing stronger bilateral ties and securing partnershi­ps with China in trade, investment, and cultural education.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environmen­t, who is also Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t, Trade and Investment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is leading the Sarawak delegation on the four- day visit to the province.

Other members of the delegation included Second Minister of Finance Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Assistant Resource Planning and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Minister Datuk Naroden Majais, Assistant Rural Economy and Industrial Developmen­t Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi and permanent secretary of Ministry of Industrial and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t, Trade and Investment ( MEITI) Datu Liaw Soon Eng.

Officials from MEITI and University College Of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) as well as Malaysia Investment Developmen­t Authority ( Mida) investment consul in Guangzhou Nazuki Abdullah were among the attendees.

The purpose of the visit, according to a press statement issued yesterday, was to strengthen bilateral ties in economic, trade and investment between Sarawak and Yunnan Province.

“Through this visit, both parties shall exchange ideas on further strengthen­ing bilateral cooperatio­n in trade, investment, and cultural education,” the statement said.

The highlight of the visit would be the signing of the Memorandum of Understand­ing ( MoU) for Investment, Trade and Economic Cooperatio­n.

The visit started off with the entourage divided into two groups. with one group led by Awang Tengah touring Kunming National High Tech Developmen­t Zone and attending briefings.

They also visited several companies in the zone.

The other group led by Wong toured the Kunming University of Science and Technology and met university officials.
