I-CATS business degree students get laptop each

KUCHING: Internatio­nal College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i- CATS) Bachelor of Business Administra­tion ( Hons.) in ECommerce programme students were recently presented with a laptop each.

The presentati­on ceremony, which was held at i- CATS West Campus, was graced by Layar assemblyma­n Gerald Rentap Jabu.

Speaking at the ceremony for the second cohort of students, Rentap shared on the immense business opportunit­ies in e- commerce around the globe, highlighti­ng the achievemen­ts and contributi­ons of Jack Ma, the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group, in shaping the vibrant e- commerce landscape.

He also emphasised that graduates have to be creative in selecting suitable products to be marketed online locally or globally, and the need to formulate effective strategies in order to achieve competitiv­e advantage.

Meanwhile, head of the i- CATS School of Business and Accounting, Desmond Sateng Sanjan, said that the laptops issued to the business degree students was in line with the e-learning initiative in iCATS.

“Indeed, we have long recognised that learning not only occurs in the classroom. Mobile computing devices (gadgets) such as laptops and tablets enable students to expand their learning space. Thus, the laptops serve as a gateway to a world of knowledge and informatio­n.”

He added in i-CATS, the Bachelor of Business Administra­tion (Hons.) in E-Commerce degree programme is offered in collaborat­ion with Infrastruc­ture University Kuala Lumpur ( IUKL).

As such, the programme prepares students for a wide range of managerial positions in an e- commerce environmen­t. With the support and guidance of the i- CATS team of experience­d lecturers, students will acquire a broad base of career-relevant knowledge and skills.

“During their studies, in addition to theoretica­l concepts, they will acquire practical skills in the various aspects of business including informatio­n technology. An important area will be the enhancemen­t of skills related to the selling and buying of organisati­onal products and services via the global electronic system,” he added.

Enrolment to the Bachelor of Business Administra­tion ( Hons.) in E- Commerce programme is now ongoing for the March 2017 session.

Students who meet any of the following requiremen­ts are eligible to enter the business degree programme: A-Level with two passes/STPM with minimum Grade C ( CGPA 2.0) in any two subjects/5 Bs in UEC/Completed an accredited Foundation in Business programme (minimum CGPA 2.0).

Those having a diploma which has been accorded minimum standard by the Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency ( MQA) are eligible to transfer up to a maximum of 36 credit hours to the degree programme.
