-

KUCHING: The State Library ( Pustaka) will be organising a ‘1 File, 1 Week’ campaign for state government agencies starting this month.

Pustaka in a statement yesterday said the campaign was in line with its function as a state depository which required that all government agencies transfer their valuable records and archives to Pustaka as per Section 14(1)(d) of the Sarawak State Library Ordinance, 1999 which states ‘ to maintain, preserve and keep public records which are more than twenty- five years old, and other documents, papers, instruments and statutes, statutory orders, regulations or decrees, directed by State Secretary to be maintained, preserved and kept in the State Depository on account of their historical value or public importance.’

The campaign aims to create awareness among government departments and agencies on the importance of proper management and maintenance of records and archives as well as to encourage the transfer of systematic records and archives of government departments and agencies to the State Records Repository.

It will be held in three series whereby the first series on ‘ Introduction to Archives and Records Management’ was conducted on Feb 17.

The second series entitled ‘ Practical in Procession’ will be held on Feb 28 (at 8.30am) at the State Records Repository’s Processing Room while the third series on ‘ Transfer of Records and Archives Material’ will be conducted on March 10 (at 8.30am) also at the same venue.

These sessions will involve records officers from nine units in the Chief Minister’s Department and they will be required to attend the three series campaign in order to facilitate the transfer of agencies’ files to the State Records Repository.
