Use money wisely, MRP grant recipients told
MIRI: Associations, organisations and NGOs that received minor rural project ( MRP) grants are urged to keep proper account of the money used, progress of project implementation and their yearly activities.
In making the call, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, said recipients of MRP grants must not just keep the money in their bank account but implement projects beneficial to members.
“I will continue to give away MRP grants according to the needs and request of the people in Mulu. However, the recipients must fully utilise the fund,” Gerawat said when presenting funds to associations and organisations here yesterday.
He added it was important that the recipients update the authorities on their projects so that the relevant government agency would know where the funds went to.
He said there were a few cases of associations and organisations (not in Mulu) not making full use of the funds but kept the money in their bank accounts.
MRP grants are meant to assist the people in any development projects in their villages or organisations, he added.
Gerawat, who is also deputy DUN speaker, said as a people’s representative, he would honour his pledge to serve the people accordingly.
Meanwhile, the 11 associations and organisations that received MRP grants yesterday were JKKK Ulung Palang B ( RM10,000), Malaysian Evangelical College Miri ( RM30,000), Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak, Miri branch ( RM10,000), Rurum Kelabit Women Kuching ( RM5,000), Sikh Association Miri ( RM5,000), The Diocesan Women’s Fellowship Board Fund Kuching ( RM5,000), Sarawak Highland Folks Music and Dance Festival ( RM15,000), JKKK Long Atip ( RM25,000), Miri Christmas Parade, Association of Churches Sarawak ( RM20,000), JKKK Kampung BA A Purau Silat ( RM10,000) and Persatuan Masyarakat Adat Dataran Tinggi Sarawak (RM10,000).
