SEBUYAU: Malaysians should not see the 1Malaysia People’s Aid ( BR1M) as a way for the government to bribe the people.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said this when presenting BR1M vouchers to the people in Sebuyau and Beting Maro constituencies yesterday.

Rohani, who is also Batang Lupar MP, said BR1M was and would never be used as a tool for the government to garner votes, as claimed by opposition parties.

“Everybody knows that BR1M is used to help the poor and the needy in this country. There is certainly no element of bribery to woo voters to support the Barisan Nasional ( BN) government in BR1M,” she added.

The government was sincere in caring for the people and wanted to help ease the burden of Malaysians, she added.

dismay after some people associated receiving BR1M to matters involving the Islamic Halal and Haram laws.

They only wanted to create confusion among the people, she said.

“The oppositions are very irresponsible in creating all sorts of baseless allegation when the government distributes BR1M to the people. Many ( Islamic) countries are also doing the same thing ( helping their people) by doing things similar to the BR1M distribution,” she said.

She cited Saudi Arabia as one of Islamic countries to do the same. This was recently revealed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak by Saudi Arabia’s Workers and Social Development Minister Dr Ali Nassir Al Ghafies during a meeting.

Two places in Rohani’s parliamentary constituency saw the distribution of BR1M yesterday, namely Sebuyau PNK hall and Dataran Tandang Sari in Beting Maro.

Rohani’s text speech was read by an officer at Batang Lupar P210 office Mohamad Speri Abdul Karim during the presentation of BR1M vouchers in Sebuyau.

A total of 177 people received the vouchers in Sebuyau while 811 others received theirs at the Dataran Tandang Sari.

For the presentation at Dataran Tandang Sari Rohani was represented by Beting Maro assemblyman Razali Gapor while Speri represented her in Sebuyau.
