‘Plans in motion to promote closer Indonesia-Sarawak economic ties’

KUCHING: The Indonesian Consulate in Kuching will enhance its efforts to strengthen economic ties between Indonesia and the state government.

According to its vice- consul Ringgi Perdini, the consulate has several plans underway to promote the country to industry players in the state.

Among them is the Indonesian Coffee Festival aimed at promoting Indonesian coffee to the Sarawak market.

“This inaugural festival is still in the early stages ( of planning) but we plan to organise it in July,” she told reporters during a media luncheon hosted by the Indonesian Consulate in Kuching at a restaurant here yesterday.

Apart from that, she also pointed out that a familiaris­ation trip to Yogyakarta will be held this month together with industry players from Sarawak, specifical­ly tour agents, as part of their efforts to promote the central region on the Indonesian island of Java.

“We will also be participat­ing in the Sarawak Timber Expo which will be held from May 18 to 21 to promote Indonesian wood products to the Sarawak market,” she added.

Ringgi also touched on the upcoming 401st anniversar­y celebratio­n of Kota Sanggau, West Kalimantan which is scheduled to be held on April 3.

“There will be a lot of exciting events during this celebratio­n such as a big bikers convoy, the making of a 1km long Indonesian ‘ lemang’ in an attempt to break the Indonesian record as well as a concert featuring Indonesian and local artistes from Sarawak.

“However, these events are all still in the early stages ( of planning) and will be finalised later,” she said, adding that the anniversar­y celebratio­n will be held at Wisata Santana in Kota Sanggau, which is around fouranda-half hours’ drive from Kuching.

Also present during the luncheon was Indonesian Consulate in Kuching Informatio­n, Social and Culture Department officer Subroto Umar.
