PKR to field more women in 14GE

MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) women’s wing is ready to field more women candidates in Sarawak for the upcoming 14th general election.

Its chief, who is also Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, said even though PKR was relatively new in Sarawak their achievemen­t have been tremendous so far, proof that Sarawakian­s supported the party.

“We are proposing to field two to four women candidates in the state in the GE14 election,” Zuraida told a press conference here recently.

Miri MP and Miri PKR chief Dr Teo Yu Keng, state women vice chief Voon Shaik Ni, its state women chief Nurhanim Mokhsen and its Baram women chief Catherine Jok were among those present.

According to Zuraida, the criteria to become PKR candidate was not solely based on academic qualificat­ions but also the knowledge to solve people’s problems and having a network with the grassroots.

She added the candidates did not necessary come from urban areas but also from rural areas, be they Bidayuhs, Ibans or Malays.

On seats, Zuraida said they had identified several in Sarawak and they were now sending signals to the grassroots to start campaignin­g.

Perak because of the many issues arising including GST, 1MDB, and Dr Mahathir and his gang, “she added.

On the terminatio­n of temporary teachers in Sarawak and the TB Centre in Miri being given to a private company, Zuraida wanted the state government to tackle the issue accordingl­y taking the people’s interest into factor.
