KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( KSMC) cannot wait for the Stage Bus Service Transformation ( SBST) project to be implemented.

Council chairman Dato Peter Minos was happy that Samarahan has been included in the project.

“It is very good that the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board ( LPKP) and other agencies have included Samarahan in the scheme of things,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Minos was responding to news headlined `All set for changes’ about the SBST project which is pending signing of agreement between Putrajaya and Konsortium BKK Sdn Bhd ( KBBK) for it to be operational.

The project will see a fleet of brand new buses equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including electronic ticketing system with ` touch-n- go’ card compliance, on board WiFi, GPS ( global positioning system) tracking, free journey/tracking app for public and CCTV on board for security.

“Thanks to the heavy investment and support from the government for the project, bus users will have big and pleasant surprises,” he said.

More importantly, Minos pointed out the public will be delighted with the extensive routes that the buses will cover from Kuching to Samarahan.

According to the Sarawak Bus Transport Companies Association ( SBTCA) honorary secretary William Chan, the coverage would include all major points of interest, Central Business District ( CBD) area and major shopping malls.

He hoped that the project would be expanded to other areas in Sarawak in the near future.

“This has been long in coming. The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato Sri Nancy Shukri has been working real hard to get the project rolling out soon. So well done,” he added.
