Body discovered in back seat of car

-

KUCHING: A senior citizen was found dead in the back seat of a car which he was believed to have vandalised earlier along with a motorcycle.

The incident was discovered around 4pm yesterday at a construction site near the Kuching International Airport when a labourer, who identified himself as Tiago, 19, went to fetch his motorcycle to head back home following the completion of his shift.

He said he arrived to discover that his bike— parked along the main road in front of the work site since morning— had been vandalised by an unknown person, who had ripped off various components and tossed them onto the ground next to his machine.

Tiago added that as he stood there looking at his damaged bike, he peered into his employer’s vehicle, which was parked next to his bike, and was shocked to see an elderly-looking man lying motionless on the rear seat.

He quickly opened the door of the unlocked vehicle to check on the victim inside and upon discovering that the latter was not breathing, notified his employer who proceeded to contact the authorities.

Tiago further added that the inside of the car had also been vandalised and that he believed the deceased was the one who, for reasons unknown, damaged both his motorcycle and the vehicle prior to his death.

Police personnel rushed to the scene to investigate the incident and later identified the deceased as Chan Cheong Jin, 63, of Kampung Pasir Tengah in Lundu.

The body was subsequently sent to the Sarawak General Hospital, with police classifying the incident as sudden death pending the outcome of a post mortem.

Family members or relatives of Chan are asked to contact ASP Morebon Manju, who is the officer-in-charge of Sungai Maong police station, at 082-241167.
