MIRI: Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) hopes to open up more opportunities for the Dayaks here to venture into business.

In this regard, its president Vicky Gulin Shandom said the annual Gawai Dayak Bazaar could be among the platforms allowing them to do just that.

Moreover, he said theorganisation had plans to widen its coverage further by running similar Gawai Dayak bazaars at other urban centres across the state apart from here and Kuching.

On this note, he disclosed that GADS was looking for opportunities to collaborate with other non- government organisations (NGO) and relevant government agencies.

“This year, the organisation of the Gawai Dayak bazaars in Kuching and Miri will be the main event for GADS, but we are also planning (to hold) similar bazaars in Bintulu and Limbang,” he said.

work together and ‘extra hard this year’ to achieve the group’s objective.

Last Saturday when officiating at the start of GADS fi rst annual general meeting (AGM), its legal advisor Robert Pasang Alam reminded all members of the working committee to play their roles and understand their tasks and responsibilities entrusted to them.

He pointed out that all elected committee members had their own functions, which must be delivered in accordance with the organisation’s constitution – in short, they must not act against the constitution.

“You should not be a committee (member) just for the sake of being in it; without fully understanding your roles, and not being able to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to you,” he said.

The election held during the AGM had maintained Vicky as GADS president for the 2017/2018 term.

He is to be aided by vice-president Patrick Uban, secretary Renggie Serang, assistant secretary Clare Cinderella and treasurer Dina Garus.

The ordinary committee members are Christina Pandong, Jerry Bun Tony, Ganda Anyum, Kasi Delang, Philip Benjamin, Hillary Jeffery and Cathrina William.

GADS’ auditor and advisor for the 2017/2018 term will be appointed by the executive committee in their next meeting.
