KUCHING: The Sarawak General Hospital ( SGH) support service will look after its facilities including maintenance and possible improvement, to ensure efficiency and functionality of the hospital.

SGH director Dr Chin Zin Hing said minor problems or defects would be dealt with in the shortest time possible.

“As such, our service team will fix the leaking faucet and shower head in the bathroom of the male orthopaedic ward today ( yesterday),” he said when met at the National Hospital Assistant Day 2017 celebration at the hospital yesterday.

He was responding to the news report over complaint of a serious pipe burst that has created a ‘ fountain’ in the bathroom of the ward located on the sixth f loor of the hospital which was posing danger to patients’ safety.

“We have a hospital service team to look after our facilities and we wi l l try our best to maintain them,” he said of the facility which have worn out over time.

While small problems could be fixed quickly, Dr Chin said major problems like the lifts at the main block, which have broken down, would take some time to be repaired and restored.

“There are facilities such as the lifts that require specific part replacement which only the contractor can source and place an order for them,” he said.

“We will try our best to make sure most of the lifts are working and when they break down, we will get them repaired as soon as possible.

Still on the lifts, Dr Chin said the work to replace the six lifts at the main block of SGH was being carried out in phases to ensure smooth running of the hospital.
