KUCHING: The tasks and responsibi l ities of hospital personnel, particularly the assistants, nowadays have become more challenging than before.

In this respect, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) director Dr Chin Zin Hing encouraged those in the healthcare and medical profession to study the ‘ Health Ministry’s Strategic Plans and Directions 2017- 2020’ and use it as their guidelines.

“I believe that the hospital personnel are able to determine the direction of their career in this field.

“It would be good for the hospital personnel, especially the assistants, to have a look at the plans (for 2017-2020,” he said in his opening remarks at the officiating the state-level ‘National Hospital Assistant Day 2017’ event in SGH’s Dewan Pesona here yesterday, where SGH chief assistant Siman Entol was also present.

According to Dr Chin, many hospital assistants today have higher qualifications than their predecessors such as diplomas and degrees, which is a great development for the profession.

“With so many areas in medicine, hospital assistants need to be more knowledgeable now than ever, in that they are vital in helping medical officers and specialists in many tasks,” he said.

He also pointed out the need for all assistants to always be pro- active and maintain good communications between one another and also those from other departments at all times.

“All of you, especially the senior assistants, must work as a team. Be open to give and receive ideas and suggestions, especially those meant as possible solutions to various issues,” he stressed.

At the same time, Dr Chin also paid tribute to the senior hospital assistants who had dedicated their lives in helping to provide medical care to the people.

“Some of you had served in the most remote parts of Sarawak under various conditions. You have shown your professionalism and dedication, which I believe the new doctors should learn and emulate from.

“Here, the ministry and the state government acknowledge your sacrifice and dedication,” he said.

On another matter, Dr Chin advised patients to strict ly observe the date and time of their appointments so that it would be a smooth session for them to seek consultation, check- ups or treatments from the doctors and specialists.

Earlier, Siman in his brief remarks thanked the government for declaring March 10 as the ‘National Hospital Assistant Day 2017’.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak officiated at the launch of the national-level event in Pahang yesterday.
