More youths interested in joining Saberkas — Sec-gen

KUCHING: Youths are showing interest in joining the Sarawak United National Youth Organisati­on ( Saberkas) with an increase in the number of registrati­ons each year.

According to Saberkas secretary- general Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, what was interestin­g about the new recruits was that there is a number of nonBumiput­era showing interest in becoming members.

“We are happy to see our new members consisting of most ethnicitie­s in Sarawak, and with the increase in the number of branches and units across the state, we are confident that we will see more youths becoming members,” Abdul Rahman said.

He said this at the launching of the ‘ Streets of Kuching’ photograph­y exhibition at the Sarawak Tourism Complex, ChinaHouse yesterday.

Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister for Public Utilities ( Electricit­y and Telecommun­ications) said 60 Saberkas branches across Sarawak have held their triennial general meeting for the 2017–2020 term.

“We are hoping that all 80 branches will hold their meetings before the state Saberkas annual general meeting (AGM) to be held after the Hari Raya (Aidilfitri) celebratio­n this year,” he said.

On the exhibition yesterday, Rahman praised the efforts of the organiser, Kota Sentosa Saberkas branch, together with PhotoBorne­o and MomentumKC­H to unearth talents in street photograph­y among Sarawakian­s.

Seven photograph­ers— Madey Skomot, Jee Foong, Renee Bong, Russell Ting, Nizam Hakim, Robin Wong and Lance Vun— are exhibiting their work showing street scenes around the city of Kuching.

The exhibition is open to the public from Wednesday until Sunday from 12pm to 5pm until March 26.

Also present were organising chairman Lance Vun, Saberkas Kota Sentosa chairman Jamex Voon, Saberkas Kota Sentosa deputy chairman Aleks Chai and Saberkas Kota Sentosa secretary Eugene Yap.
