SIBU: SUPP BN Lanang Service Team, led by Chieng Buong Toon, is collaborating with three potential candidates from Dudong and Bukit Assek branches to get close with the rural community in order to better serve Lanang constituency.

This is the community and political service they were committed to provide after Chieng, who is also branch chairman of Bukit Assek, was designated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to serve Lanang constituency after it fell into the hands of DAP.

Since then the team has been serving the community under the BN umbrella.

The three candidates proposed by Dudong and Bukit Assek branches are Joseph Chieng, Kevin Kong and Wong Ching Yong.

Joseph told The Borneo Post yesterday: “Yes. The SUPP-BN Lanang constituency service team has been on the ground. But with the 14th General Election approaching, we have intensified our effort to win back the seat for the BN. We are getting close with the community.”

Joseph said their team with the three potential candidates including him were returning to Lanang constituency every weekend to work on what the rural folks needed.

Since DAP took control of the constituency, the folks had complained of inadequate funds to upgrade infrastructure.

“Our service team is standing in the gap to draw folks back to the BN government so their needs would not be neglected.”

Joseph said they would give priority to matters that need immediate action, while helping folks apply for government funds to speed up allocation.

He said their collaborative efforts for development strengthened the bond between the government and rural folks.

Issues brought by the people were mainly concerning infrastructure upgrading like fixing broken bridges, and the team saw to the needs of teachers working in rural schools.

“Last week, we returned to visit Rumah Sumabng Maleah to discuss rural development issues with its community leaders,” he said.

They walked the talk and their team helped repair some broken infrastructure.

“Our team together with the three potential candidates thank the longhouse chief and his community for putting their trust in the BN government to solve their problems.”
