JCIM to focus on members’ developmen­t, projects, PR and branding

SIBU: Junior Chamber Internatio­nal Malaysia (JCIM) will be focusing on its members’ developmen­t, sustainabl­e projects, public relations ( PR) and branding this year.

Its national president Nurul Huda Afandi said this year’s theme is ‘CCTV’—which stands for courage, collaborat­e, teamwork, and value— and called for its spirit to be instilled among members.

“We have launched the JCIM passport to encourage members to be active in JCI, and have completed the 2017 leadership summit for the local board of directors.

“We will be rolling out new training and programmes to develop our members and attract new members,” she said when addressing JCI Mandarin Sibu’s 21st installati­on of its board of directors- cum- awards banquet held at a leading hotel here yesterday.

Her text of speech was read out by JCIM’s executive vice-president JCI Senator Samantha Yong Yin Sia.

Eliah Lau Kiing Wang was installed as the new president of JCI Mandarin Sibu for the 2017– 2018 term, succeeding outgoing president Kan Wen Chess.

On sustainabl­e projects, Nurul said JCIM encouraged all wings to conduct sustainabl­e projects in collaborat­ion with all sectors of society that create impact in the local community.

She said JCIM’s sustainabl­e developmen­t award would be open for nomination­s soon for companies and organisati­ons that conduct sustainabl­e projects which advance global goals.

On the PR and branding side, she pointed out the goal was to position JCIM on “top of mind” amongst all youth developmen­t organisati­ons.

“We are in the progress of enhancing our online presence through the updated JCIM website, launching JCIM.tv and having regular updates on the JCIM FB page.

“We have also conducted visits to media houses and will soon be arranging for interviews in the media as we continue to reach out to more youth in Malaysia.

“In addition, we have built partnershi­ps for collaborat­ion with various sectors of society such as Biro Tatanegara and the Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance and Kiwanis Internatio­nal.

Nurul said this year would be an extraordin­ary year for JCIM with its strong and capable national board of directors and appointees as well as passionate members in the country to synergise and bring JCIM to greater heights.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who was invited as the event’s guestof-honour was represente­d by Dudong assemblyma­n Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also Sibu Municipal Council chairman.
