KUCHING: Five needy families from two villages recently received donations from a group of donors here.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw initiated the donation drive after being notified of the plights of these families, and he also made arrangements to get the donations transported to the recipients.

Lim, when met yesterday, said he was told by a concerned member of the public, Edi Banyan, regarding the problems faced by three families at Kampung Sungai Sega Baru and Kampung Sungai Pinang Baru, two Iban villages near Serian. He said the heads of these families were 76-year- old Charlie Bantin who is blind, 78year-old Tambon Langit who could no longer walk, and 61-year- old Lachan Riki who is paralysed.

Lim also went to deliver donations to two families in Kampung Punau, Jalan Puncak Borneo after being informed of their plight by the village’s women’s bureau chairwoman Sawoi Anee.

The two recipients there were 72-year- old Sinyuos Saod who is paralysed and 58-year-old disabled person Diyum Anyek.

“The donors bought food items and beverages, to help reduce the financial burdens faced by these families,” he said.

Lim, a former marine police personnel, has devoted his life to assisting needy individuals and organisations and claims to have assisted and delivered donations to various individuals and organisations on 638 occasions.
