435 take part in Ecofit and Road Trail Challenge 1.0

BINTULU: A total of 435 runners from all walks of life turned up for the Ecofit and Road Trail Challenge 1.0 event at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu campus ( UPMKB) yesterday.

There were 148 participan­ts in the 12km run and 287 in the 5km run for both men and women categories including internatio­nal participan­ts from South Africa, China, Philippine­s, Indonesia, Brunei and Japan.

The youngest runners were aged 8 ( 5km) and 13 (12km) while a 62year- old man and a 60-year- old woman were the oldest runners.

The top five winners in the 12km run and top three in the 5km run received medals and cash prizes.

Each participan­t who completed their runs also received medals ( 5km run) and finisher’s T-shirts (12km).

In the men’s 5km category, first place went to Wallace Galleh Tambi who clocked 25 minutes and 5 seconds followed by Abdul Rahman Ramlan ( 25:11) and Goliath Valeran Sill (25: 24).

Veronica Fidelin Demong clocked 35: 41 to seal her spot as the winner in the women’s 5km category. Second and third places went to Allyvia Jinah Philips (35: 44) and Selipia Enna Mathew Ngadan (37: 09) respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Chong Yen Boon who clocked 1: 05: 54 won the men’s 12km category. Second to fifth place went to Ling Tai Ming (1: 05: 55); Abdul Razak Jusoh (1:11: 55); Zulkarnine Saring (1:12: 23) and Lau Heng Yioung (1:12: 36) respective­ly.

In the women’s 12km category, first to fifth place winners were Chai Shian Fung (1:12: 57); Vivian Ngu Yen (1: 34: 40); Salmah Hasan (1: 34:45); Jocelyn Hii Ling (1: 38: 31) and Tang Hung Sien (1: 42: 36) respective­ly.

The flag- off and prize- giving ceremony was officiated at by UPMKB Agricultur­e and Food Sciences dean Dr Zamri Rosli.
