UPP’s effort in rural development due to ‘people’s trust’
SIBU: United People’s Party ( UPP) Community Service Board Sibu will help transform rural development particularly in the Bawang Assan and Dudong state constituencies.
Board chairman Dato Andrew Wong said their efforts to develop the rural areas was a response to the people’s trust in them.
“The community service board will make efforts to develop the rural areas. If we are unable to do it, it would be a failure to us,” he pointed out at the board’s gathering at 1Malaysia Cultural Village, Bukit Aup recently.
Also present were deputy chairman Andrew Shilling, Temenggong Stanley Geramong, Pemanca Jamees Semilan and the gathering’s organizing chairman Winston Suji.
According to Wong, the board’s work scope is not confined to getting the local authorities to implement projects or provide services.
“If we need services from the local authorities, we will ask from them. However, if they cannot render the services, then we will implement them ourselves,” he added.
Meanwhile, in his welcoming remarks, Shilling stressed that UPP was still relevant in the context of both the state and federal government.
He said this could be seen through the appointment of community leaders especially for the Bawang Assan and Dudong areas.
“For Bawang Assan, we still have one vacancy for a Penghulu post in Batang Igan. And for Dudong, the appointment letter is already there and it could be anytime that a Penghulu is officially appointed,” he revealed.
He said party unity had rendered it easy for UPP to get community leaders appointed.
The gathering was the initiative of 10 bumiputra board members from Bawang Assan and Dudong, he added.
