KUCHING: The Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment will see the transfer of 10 of its officers effective today (March 15).

Among the notable transfers are its permanent secretary Datu Sudarsono Osman who is being transferred to the Ministry of Housing to hold the same post, its director ( planning division) Datu Sajeli Kipli who will move to Land Custody and Development Authority ( LCDA) as its general manager, and principal assistant secretary (environment division) Sherrina Husaini who has been appointed Miri Resident.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan admitted this was the first time he witnessed 10 people being transferred at the same time since he was appointed as its assistant minister in 1988.

“I hope we will have a good replacement for those who have been transferred because we need people for the ministry to function effectively and to ensure continuity in the service delivery,” he said during a ‘Majlis Sekalung Budi Sejunjung Kasih’ dinner here on Monday to appreciate those on transfer and two retiring officers.

Awang Tengah also relayed to guests how he was initially stunned when he first heard of news regarding the transfer of his officers.

“I was informed by (Assistant Minister for Resource Planning) Datuk Naroden Majais when we were in China two weeks ago of the transfer order. At first I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke especially when these days there’s all kinds of news in social media.”

He said it was not the right time for the transfers.

contract will expire by year-end when the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting is forthcoming. The key persons in the ministry, namely Sudarsono, Sherrina and eight others, will be transferred to other ministries, departments and agencies.”

Awang Tengah also disclosed how he, together with Sudarsono, had discussed plans to restructure the ministry to improve its functions and provide better services to the people and the state.

Though the plan would have to be put on the back burner due to the transfer, he nevertheless assured that the plan could be realised in the future.

He also urged staff under the ministry to embrace the new policy brought forth by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The state leadership has changed with the appointment of the new chief minister and therefore we must all assimilate ourselves with the new change and always put the interest of our clients as our main focus when carrying out our duties.”

Assistant Minister for Resource Planning Datuk Naroden Majais and Assistant Minister for Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh were also present at the dinner.
