MIRI: SK Jalan Bintang has managed to raise about RM230,000 so far to build a school hall.

During the school’s 22nd Parent-TeacherAssociation (PTA) annual general meeting (AGM) recently, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting commended the effort to meet the cost of the project, which is estimated to range from RM300,000 to RM400,000.

Ting also allocated RM35,000 for the school and added he would help the PTA to secure more funds from the state government.

Plans for the hall have been submitted to the relevant authorities and construction is expected to start once they are approved this year.

Meanwhile, Ting also encouraged teachers to buy units of the 1Malaysia Civil Servants’ Housing Project ( PPA1M) Melia Residences @ Parkcity Eastwood, launched by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg on Saturday.

“For teachers who have yet to own a house, the PPA1M project is specifically for civil servants and buying a house is a very good investment for the future,” he said, adding the location of the project is very strategic.

In his speech, SK Jalan Bintang principal Ahmad Othman said the number of pupils has increased every year and hoped the Ministry of Education could help to approve expanding the school so that pupils would have a more conducive and comfortable study environment.

He also called for continuous support from parents in the implementation of school programmes and activities.

Meanwhile, Mohd Farez Samin was elected PTA chairman for the term 2017-2019, while Prof Lau Hieng Ho is the vice-chairperson.
