Hope Place appeals for public help to assist epileptic boy

-

KUCHING: Four-year- old Edison George, who suffers from brain damage, spent 100 days at the intensive care unit of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

He has become epileptic after he was discharged last year.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan said the boy needs two cans of S26 milk a week.

“Each can of S26 milk costs around RM7 and with their small income, it is hard for the family to buy S26 milk for Edison,” said Kelvin through his press statement yesterday.

“Edison’s father George Minchong works as an assistant cook and earns RM1,300 a month and pays a rent of RM550 for his family. With another child, a six-year- old girl, to feed and his wife needs to take care of Edison, the family’s income is barely sufficient,” he added.

Thus, Wan is seeking public help to ease their burden.

He added that Hope Place was short of S26 milk, making it difficult for them to continue supplying the milk to Edison.

Hope Place is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles. Most of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month, hence many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For families with children with special needs or with elderly or disabled people, Hope Place provides milk powder, oat and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out its aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on its recipients list. Currently, the NGO supports more than 170 families.

More information can be obtained by calling 013- 567 2775 or their office at 082– 683378 which is open from 8.30am to noon and 2pm–5pm Mondays to Fridays, and 9am to noon on Saturdays.

Those making a donation should request for a receipt from the staff at Hope Place.

Direct bank-in can be made to Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching, Maybank a/c 5112-89001160. Kelvin can be contacted at 016- 866 0711.
