‘RTM must keep up with ICT to stay relevant’
KUCHING: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has been urged to upgrade and equip its broadcasting stations with the latest technology to enhance radio and television and digital communication especially in the remote areas of Sarawak.
“In line with the current technology advancement, RTM should evolve and change according to the current needs without jeopardising the country’s vision and mission in line with the government’s desire to uphold the country’s creative industries,” said Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during a dinner for RTM retired staff at RTM headquarters recently.
Awang Tengah’s text of speech was read by Assistant Minister for Entrepreneur Development Datuk Naroden Majais.
“I believe that RTM has always been a source of reference for news be it local or world news, with production of various genre for radio and television of which its content suits the interest of the viewers and listeners.”
He added that RTM being the official media of the government should always uphold its role and responsibilities as entrusted to them.
“Here in Sarawak particularly radio could surpass other media in disseminating information to its listeners such as farmers, fisherman and livestock breeders in areas that are unreachable by other media which would benefit them to improve their yield and productivity.
“Thus, radio should produce educational programmes that could help the rural communities to improve their production and ways to market their produce,” added Awang Tengah.
He added out that RTM should remain relevant and continue playing their role in disseminating accurate and latest information while providing leisure and entertainment programmes for radio and television to the public.
Also present were PVRTM Malaysia president Latiffah Ahmad Sidek and RTM Sarawak broadcasting director Salmah Ibrahim Melina.
