Ting calls for feedback on facilities from public

-

MIRI: Members of the public who come across drains, lamp posts and other facilities damaged by floods should report them to Miri City Council ( MCC) or any SUPP branch so that action could be taken to repair them.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting made this call when met by reporters during a site inspection on Monday.

“Regardless of any constituency, our role is to reach out, listen and resolve the problems faced by the people. Thus, everyone who has problems with facilities and utilities in their area should give feedback to us,” Ting said.

Ting was on a visit to three areas under the Piasau constituency that will benefit from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds.

The areas are Kampung Sungai Lusut, Kampung Luak 1 (4B) and Taman Bumiko.

Ting said the funds for the projects had already been approved and MCC would be handling the study and finalising the project before opening them for tender.

“Prior to the last state election, Kampung Sungai Lusut, Kampung Luak and Bumiko were delineated under my constituency, therefore I will make sure that places that require necessary upgrading, re- servicing and development will be serviced soon,” Ting told reporters.

Kampung Sungai Lusut will have a total of 116 metres of road starting from the entrance into the kampong up to the Surau Darul Aman resurfaced and widened.

“I first realised the condition here during a Hari Raya visit last year. I truly felt the situation faced by the people here, which had driven me to appeal for funds for this project,” he said, adding that RM100,000 had been approved for the resurfacing and upgrading project.

Meanwhile, the drainage system in Kampung Luak 1 (4B) will be upgraded under the same project.

“Previously, I received numerous cal ls from residents here on frequent floods, which prompted me to prioritise this area. There are also several other areas that are flood-prone.

“By upgrading the earth drains to proper drains, it is hoped that it would solve the flood problem here,” Ting said. The estimated cost for the project is said to be RM250,000.

Similarly, a large part of Taman Bumiko will undergo upgrading and re-servicing of its drains and a new pathway surrounding the residential area will be built.

“The city council will study the plan, finalise it and approve the project before implementing it,” he said.

Cr Aries Leong, Cr Lee Thin Hin, MCC officers and community leaders joined the site visits.
