Call on timber firm to compensate flash flood victims at Rh Adang

-

MARUDI: It is believed that the flash flood that hit Rumah Adang Abang in Ulu Ridan near here recently was triggered by the logging operation near the area.

As such, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala called upon the timber company to pay damages to the longhouse residents.

He also advised the residents to make reports to Marudi District Office, state Welfare Department and Agriculture Department.

Gerawat made this call during a visit to Rumah Adang Abang yesterday afternoon.

On clean water supply, the assemblyman assured the residents that a report on the matter had been submitted to the Public Utilities Ministry.

Additionally, he said the 5km gravel road leading to the longhouse would be resurfaced soon.

“This matter will be brought to JKR ( Public Works Department) as soon as possible for further attention

There will be more assistance from the federal government coming to the longhouse folk. I will discuss with (Baram MP) YB Anyi Ngau on the best means of channelling this assistance,” he said.

Later Gerawat approved the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM5,000 to the security and development committee (JKKK) of Rumah Adang.

Assuring the longhouse residents further, Marudi District Officer Mackos Sibong said Gerawat would present the report on the flood, including the damage that it had brought upon their crops, to the district office.

“Datuk Gerawat, who is also a lawyer, would also discuss the issue with the timber company so that amicable solutions could be reached later on.”
