KUCHING: The committee of Masjid Darul Husni at Petra Jaya has received an allocation of over RM500,000 from Yayasan Al Falah – a foundation set up by the family of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid announced the grant during his visit to the mosque last November.

Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof represented the deputy prime minister at the handover of the cheque to the mosque committee here recently.

According to Fadillah, the money from Yayasan Al Falah is meant to fund extensions works on the mosque as well as the construction of several facilities there.

“It is my wish for the mosque committee to utilise this fund for the betterment of this mosque and while we’re still sourcing for funds to complete Phase II and III of the mosque extension project, we hope that the mosque committee would be proactive as well in looking for funds.

“I pledge to donate another RM400,000 this year together with Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, and we hope that the allocation would help expedite the progress of this project,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masjid Darul Husni committee chairman Hamdan Sarbini said the future planning for the mosque would include a hall for the benefit of the local Muslim community and also a dialysis centre.

“We have also been told that the DBKU ( Kuching North City Commission) will liaise with the relevant authorities on the extension of the road that links this mosque with the main road, as well as on the construction of carparks,” he added.

Masjid Darul Husni was built in 1988 and later, underwent renovations in 2009 with a total cost of RM4.3 million.

At the simple ceremony on Sunday, the mosque committee also presented donations worth RM11,000 to 11 suraus in and around Kuching.
