Christy Chung recalls how Chow rejected her proposal
HONG KONG: Actress Christy Chung, 46, has been attractive enough to win over an actor 12 years her junior.
Mainland Chinese actor Golden Zhang married her last year. It was her third marriage.
But 23 years ago, she had been traumatised when her proposal to comedian- director Stephen Chow was rejected.
Back then, Christy and Chow had developed some sort of chemistry after starring together in the romantic- comedy Love on Delivery.
It was in the afterglow of that on- screen chemistry that she had proposed.
Canadian-born Christy was also trying to do Chow a favour. He had disclosed that his plans to emigrate to Canada had been thwarted after it was discovered that he was somehow linked to Hong Kong triads.
Christy then hinted that she could “help him obtain a Canadian passport” because she is Canadian by birth. But that offer was turned down.
When recounting that incident, Christy chuckled. She recalled being dejected, because she had admired Chow for his moviemaking skills. She had no idea why she was rejected.
Last November, Christy had married for the third time, to Zhang, 34. She has three daughters from her previous two marriages.
It was also the first time

that she had performed the traditional Chinese wedding rites.
As for what Chow had been thinking back in 1994, actor Tin Kai Man appears to have some clues.
Tai, who was Stephen’s wacky sidekick in a number of comedies in the 1990s, disclosed that Chow is a loner and is very bad at maintaining interpersonal relationships.
Added Tai: “I think Stephen knows exactly what he is doing with his money – he puts his money into the bigger items and watches it closely.”
One incident left him with a flatter wallet.
Recalled Tai: “Stephen said he would buy me a shirt and told me to choose something off the rack. I chose a HK$ 200 shirt. Afterwards I told him that I’ll treat him to a movie. But he also invited some friends and asked me to purchase 13 movie tickets in total. So actually, I ended up forking out more money for the movie tickets than for the shirt itself!”
